I went to a mom’s group this week where the theme was kindness.
As moms, we’re naturally kind. To everyone else. Except ourselves.
Once we have kids, our expectations skyrocket.
We expect our house to stay spotless.
Our child to be perfectly behaved.
Ourselves to never lose our cool.
We carry The Mental Load.
We think, “I thought this would be easier.”
We compare ourselves to the other mom who “has it all together.”
Newsflash: no one does. The sooner we accept it, the sooner we can give ourselves grace.
“Grace? She died 30 years ago!” (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
Not that grace. The kind that lets us cut ourselves some slack.
The kind where we stop worrying what people think.
Stop stressing if the house is messy when company comes.
Stop trying to be perfect.
And just live. In the moment. In the mess. In the chaos.
Because being kind to yourself sometimes means giving fewer shts. The fewer shts you give, the lighter life feels.
Tell me: what little thing will you stop giving a sht about today?
