Hello, Mamas! And welcome to This Is Mom Life!
Momming is HARD. But what I’ve found makes it a little bit easier is being able to commune and commiserate with others going through it too. And that’s what I hope to do here: share my stories, from the chaos of weekday mornings to the unexpected joy of solo grocery trips, plus tips, fails, laughs, tears, and everything in between. I hope you’ll feel welcome, seen, heard, valued, loved and supported!
I have been thinking about starting a blog for a while, and while everyone I tell keeps saying “Do it!” of course imposter syndrome and self-doubt creep in. But last weekend I met up with a friend who gave me the inspiration (and accountability) to make it happen.
May is a good month. The April showers have brought the May flowers (and the pollen that my soon-to-be new white car will be covered in!). The trees are almost all filled in with green. The temperatures finally rise enough that we can open our windows and let the breeze blow through and the humidity creep back inside.
For those of you with kids, you know this month as Maycember. Like December, with all the craziness of spring sports and music concerts and school assemblies and end-of-year parties and birthday parties. Just in May. There is no white on the calendar, and if there is, it will quickly get filled in with something. Or two somethings. Rain is usually a blessing when it cancels sporting events so you have a moment to breathe and perhaps eat a meal together as a family where you actually chew your food instead of just swallowing it whole, but then those events get shoved in an already busy day later on and you have to figure out how to get one kid to two places on the opposite ends of town at the same time. I am currently in a weekly survival mode. If you know, you know, and I feel you. Hang in there, you’re almost to the finish line.
May is also a month for Moms. We have our own day! And since the kids are still in school, you will inevitably get a painted flower pot with seeds to grow, or a diamante poem that describes who you are. Dads get jipped in June…no teachers to keep the kids on track and make something fun for dad!
But why enjoy just the one day. Most women I know would rather stretch that day into a whole month. 😉
This May, let’s do something for ourselves. Like, really do something for ourselves. Not just a little pampering that could be written off as self-care, like a pedicure or massage, (don’t get me wrong, love those, and from April to September I have regular pedicures, and always treat myself to a massage on my birthday!) We get so busy investing in everyone else that sometimes we forget about ourselves. What have you been putting off? What are you passionate about? What do you really want to do?
Do something for YOU. This blog is for me. Maybe it will go somewhere, maybe it won’t. But I’m taking the first step in faith, into the unknown. And already, I’m happier, and feeling more accomplished.
May is for us, moms! What will you do?? I’d love to know —tell me below, or drop a comment with what kind of chaos Maycember is bringing your way!
We’re in this together, one homework meltdown at a time. You’ve got this, Mama. ❤
