We were away for the weekend. Got back home at 8:00 p.m.
My daughter had homework. I’d reminded her all weekend.
She had ample 1.5-hour stretches to do it, but instead, chose to watch TV.
(Yes, I could have enforced the no-screens-before-homework rule, but we were at my sister’s, and it was a getaway, too.)
When we walked in the door Monday night, I simply said, “Homework. Shower. Bed.”
And then I went about my business.
Unpacking. Laundry. Shower.
When I went back downstairs, I fully expected to find her procrastinating and doing anything but homework.
But to my pleasant surprise, she’d put a nice dent in it.
It wasn’t due the next day, so she decided to defer the rest.
Fine by me. It was getting late.
Instead of trying to rush her through her shower, I got her all set in the bathroom and walked out.
She eventually got into bed, almost an hour late.
Will she be tired the next day?
Probably.
Did we avoid a fight?
Yep.
Is she learning to manage herself and her time while I’m learning to let go?
Most definitely.
