This is Mom Life

It's fun. It's hard. Let's do it together.

Small Talk: Because Someday You’ll End Up at Someone Else’s Family Reunion

The next day my daughter casually said, “I think I saw Dee a couple times today.”

And just like that, the neighbors weren’t strangers anymore.

That’s the funny thing about parenting.

We think we’re dragging our kids to one neighborhood happy hour.

We think we’re bribing them with brownies and “special drinks” just to survive an hour of awkward conversation.

But somewhere between the beach, the brownies, the rainstorm, and one conversation with a civil engineer, they were learning something much bigger.

How to introduce themselves.

How to ask questions.

How to make people feel interesting.

How to walk into a room where they don’t know everyone…and leave knowing a few more people than when they arrived.

None of that was on the agenda for the day.

We almost didn’t even go.

Sometimes the best parenting moments aren’t the ones we plan—they’re the ones we stumble into when we’re willing to go with the flow.

And honestly?

That’s one of my cheaper parenting investments.
